BEFORE YOU GO TO THE DAFF SITE, REGULATIONS HAVE CHANGED.
Due to the many changes, the Australian government now strongly suggests that you use an IPATA agent, to arrange shipment of your pets to Australia. We are an IPATA agent to contact.
PERTH: Byford Quarantine Center IS NOW CLOSED PERMANENTLY. Pets destined for Perth will now fly to either Sydney, or Melbourne. Contact Canberra if you have questions about this.
ONLY 10 DAY QUARANTINE: There is now a 10 day mandatory quarantine for all pets entering Australia from Canada; but the pet will have to wait for 180 days from the blood draw date of a successful Rabies Titre test. The emphasis for avoiding 30 day quarantine is on there being no Ticks present on the pet when examined in Australia - your pet has ticks, it stays in quarantine 30 days.
Petflight is up to speed with the labyrinth of dates, tests, vaccinations, and exceptions for each case. Without warning (even belonging to IPATA) 3 major changes became enforced for flights out of Toronto in June 2014 that (until then) were acceptable practice. No longer is it a question of a couple of visits to your vet, and a swift stamping of documents at the Canadian Government vet - the active ingredients of drugs to give your pet changed, even the permit itself underwent radical changes in 2014. With all countries, there is always the possibility that regulations might change, that's why we are here, to actively sort out the issues, if and/or when they arise.
Temperature Embargo: In the extreme heat of summer, airlines refuse live cargo (your pets) until the temperature drops under 28C actual (35C humidity) effective for that entire date - not just the daylight hours. This is for safe ground transport without danger of your pet dieing due to the extreme temperature. As summers become hotter, this becomes more and more a problem with timed permits like to Australia and New Zealand. The only way to deal with temperature embargoes, when it is obvious the temperature will pose a conflict, is to pay for an extension, and confirm quarantine space will remain open, while the airline decides the temperature issue on a day to day basis.
As a Toronto based premier dog and cat shipping company for Australia, Petflight encourages you to contact us for the relocation of your pets.
FUTURE PLAN: January 2016, Sydney "Eastern Creek Quarantine" facility will be closing, leaving only Spotswood Quarantine (in Melbourne) for all imports in to Australia. Presently however, Eastern Creek is still operational.
